One of our pain points with Jira is that we cannot use subtasks because they are closed when moving the parent story to a new sprint.

We are trying out the Automation for Jira add-on and I can't figure out a way to move all subtasks to a new sprint when the parent story has moved. Anybody have an idea for this?

Hi Joe,

This should be relatively easy with our related issues action, and the ability to copy fields.  Something like this should do the trick:

copy-sprint-parent.png

So basically yo have rule like this:

  • Trigger: When the sprint changes (on parent)
  • Then for all the subtasks
    • Edit the sprint field and copy it from the parent

For the last part, you need to click on that '...' menu after adding the 'Sprint' field to access the 'Copy from' actions.

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
Andreas
