How to transition subtask status depending on parent status?

I have a story with subtasks. Engineers add estimates (in hours) to subtasks. I would like a way to rollup these estimates into the story task. Thoughts?

Hi michael,

If you are using the default JIRA time tracking, estimates in subtasks should be rolled up to the parent issue by default

However if your timetracking is a custom solution you can use our newly added math functions in combination with smart values to set the values. A great example of this is detailed in our calculated customfields and math expressions post, under the title "sum all subtask story points".
