Hi,
I have installed swf2pdf on a machine running Windows Server 2008 which hosts Confluence. After installing the Sharpview PDF Viewer plugin and uploading a number of PDF's I always recieve the following message "preview is not available for current file" .
I looked online and noticed the following Atlassian Answer:
They say, "As it turned out, this was being run on a Windows 7 machine, which is not supported by the underlying technology for the PDF browser."
I suspect this is the same for Windows Server 2008. Does anyone know when Windows Server 2008 will be compatible with Sharpview PDF Viewer for Confluence?
I was not able to find a solution to this problem via Atlassian Answers. If you are also having this problem and looking to get it resolved then please contact info@appfusions.com for support.
I don´t recommend you using appfusions add-on sharpview. After a year your license expires and the add-on sharpview stops working and will not show any pdf files until you pay again for another year to have a license.
That's right! they don´t give perpetual licenses. You either pay appfusions every year of the add-on sharpview stops working completely in Confluence.

In order to check SWFTools problems, simply run it by using the command line (replace file with yours):
pdf2swf -T9 file.pdf -o file.swf
and open the output SWF file on your browser.

Do you want to keep going back and forth on answers.atlassian.com - or find out what the problem is?
At this stage, I do not know - as I have stated.
Our support is not on this forum - please contact us at info@appfusions.com as I have suggested a couple times so we can get a gotomeeting and find out what the challenge is in your environment. Likely can solve in a single shared screen.
It is only lucky that I stumbled on your post - we watch this forum as best we can - but it is not our support channel.
Best,
Ellen

Hi Lucas,
Another thing to check is to see if your PDF files have security set on them. You can check this by viewing the properties of the files.

Let us know Lucas -
If the file is not confidential, can you attach it or email to info@appfusions.com
Is this happening with ALL your PDF files ? Please tell us more.
If can't get going in next day, lets do a screenshare and sort for you.
We should be able to resolve this for you or at least figure out the problem here.

Yes, I have tested a few different PDF documents and they all seem to give the "preview is not available for current file" message.
I even created a test PDF in MS Word and even that won't show up. I will email this to info@appfusions.com. Also I double checked the path to pdf2swf and it is correct.

Hi Lukas - honestly, at this stage, I have no idea what the problem is -
Thanks for sending us your files in email - we uploaded them in our test sharpview and it worked.
Lets get a gotomeeting early next week and sort this on the fly. Something is tweaking this, and I simply do not know. Maybe something in your environment that we are forgetting to ask is causing the problem - I do not know.
I will send you a mail on this - lets get this resolved, already.

Hi Ellen,
Sorry for the late reply, I am still receiving the same behaviour from the Sharpview plugin and was wondering if you have thought of anything which may be causing this?
I am running a Windows Server 2008 machine with Confluence 4.3, Sharpview plugin v2.1.5 and SWF Tools v0.9.1 (for Windows).
I have tried to figure out why this isn't working but with no luck so far. My evaluation is due to expire soon so if this cannot be resolved I will need to find an alternative solution. I appreciate your help with this so far.
Regards,
Lucas

Hi Lucas -
Hmm.
We have had customers install this on Windows 2008 servers before - and it worked fine.
Not sure what the reason is for the Windows 7 machine restriction - but since not a server, we haven't cared that much since it's intended as a server solution. Nonetheless, it's a SWFTools restriction - you are correct.
Please try it out. I think it will work fine. Let me know.

Hi Ellen,
Thanks for the info. I have already installed and tested the plugin with SWFTools and I recieve the same behaviour mentioned above and in the related article.
Is there anything else that could be causing this not to work?
Regards,
Lucas
