This is for the SaaBox Jira-case plugin that links Jira to Salesforce. Is it not supported? I see it available in the Atlassian marketplace, but nothing about this process is clear to me. For instance, if Atlassian is hosting our instance, can we purchase plugins via the marketplace and have Atlassian or a tool Atlassian provides handle the install? If that's the case, then what do we do if we already have a license for the SaaBox Jira/Salesforce plugin?
Or is the case that you offer plugins via your marketplace with no way to install them onto our OnDemand account if we purchase one. Thereby forcing us to host our own instance of Jira in house in order to achieve our goal?
That said, it seems unreasonable to expect no support for a plugin that's vetted in your marketplace.
Hi Karen,
Currently, purchases via Marketplace are for download products only. The Saabox JIRA to Salesforce Plugin is not compatible with your OnDemand instance.
You can review the OnDemand Plugin Policy page for the full list of OnDemand compatible plugins. The Saabox JIRA to Salesforce Plugin is not on the list of approved OnDemand Plugins and will not work in our hosted enviroment.
Plugins are bundled into OnDemand and run on our servers. This means we evaluate each plugin to ensure it meets the standard of security, scale, reliability and performance required in our OnDemand environment. This evaluation has to be repeated each time we upgrade the application versions in OnDemand to ensure compatibility.
Ultimately, this cannot scale for our team, so we've shifted focus to building a new plugin framework. This new framework allows plugin developers to create plugins that run outside of the Atlassian OnDemand environment against the APIs, rather than share our processors. This will allow developers more freedom, and allow us to ensure security and stability for our hosted customers. This is quite a large undertaking, and we do not have an ETA at this point.
If you do need to run a JIRA instance with customizations outside of the included ones in Atlassian OnDemand, the best alternative is to host JIRA on your own servers or with a 3rd party hosting provider. Hosting JIRA on your on servers provides additional flexibility not offered in OnDemand.
I hope this clarifies. Let us know if you have any additional questions.
Cheers,
Eric Snyder
