Can add-on's be shared with different instances?

Our company has JIRA and Confluence... we have our own server and 1 instance... we are researching adding another instance but we want to make sure that any addon we have bought or will buy will be able to be shared with both instances.

No, it will not.

You must licence each server ans add-on for each server separately.

Okay, let's see if I got this straight.

As long as the two instances are using 1 server the add-on can be shared… if we have a separate server with each instance… we cannot… we would have to buy the add-on license per server... correct?

Not quite.  There is no "sharing".  Each instance needs a separate licence for the core software and for each add-on. 

Imagine you have two servers, A and B.  Now you install

• Jira on A for 100 users
• Jira on B for 50 users
• Jira on B again, different port and database etc, for 250 users
• <add-on> on B
• <add-on> on the second B

You will need the licences:

• 100 Jira for A
• 50 Jira for B
• 250 Jira for B2
• 50 Add-on for B
• 250 Add-on for B2

(For larger more complex sets of servers, it may be worth a look at the Enterprise licences, but I don't think they would work for you at this level)

Thank you Nic!  With the enterprise license... would we still have to buy a separate add-on for each instance?

At this time, I understand that you will, yes.  But for larger numbers of users, you would still save a lot on the application licences.
