How can I make the current status of a poll transparent to stakeholders?

Chris Mackin October 3, 2019

I have created a poll (Choice) and embedded it into a confluence page (wiki).  I am using it to assess team confidence on a given topic that is discussed in the page.  I have learned that you can not visualize the current status of a poll unless you yourself vote.  Is there a setting to visualize poll status without having to vote?

Hello Chris

With "Polls and Questions For Confluence", it is possible to see results before voting.

It is possible, too, to set up colors and options, like one or multiple votes per person. End a vote and notify voters. If you need a new functionality you can ask for it . https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1220521/polls-and-questions-for-confluence?hosting=server&tab=overview

I am asking my ADMIN to enable so that I can test.  In looking at the documentation, I am seeing that you have a selection "When to show results" which has two choices "After user votes" or "When the poll ends".  I want to see iterative progress toward a 100% agreement in the poll.  I also want stakeholders to see progress toward 100% alignment.  I am not seeing that configuration possibility in the documentation.

Nice.  You are indeed able to see the voting in-line and seamless to integrate a question into the page.  Are you able to see who has voted and who has not voted?  This functionality is part of the other macro.

In fact the option "When to show results" is now set to "Always", i think you noticed that, we will update the documentation following this change.

Actually you can't see who voted, do you suggest to have a list of who did voted for the poll ?

Allow me to provide the user case.  We are a Enteripise Lean Agile organization based on a "commit" culture.  Prior to planning new feature we need to ensure that the team understands the business requirements (What and Why) along with the NFR implications.  I am using this poll as visualization that the team is moving toward a commitment. (e.g. "Is Feature (F12345) "Ready to Pull"? Yes or No).

We can add to a "Edit Mode" page, which is only visible by the poll creator, the list of users who made a vote, and count their number. So you can know for example that 15 from 20 users voted. Is  that ok for you ? or do you want to know who answered Yes and who answered No ?

Chris Mackin October 8, 2019

I imagine a toggle in edit mode that allows poll:

  • results not visible until member with access to a page that the poll resides votes
  • results visible to all that have access to the page that the poll resides; regardless if you vote or do not vote.

So, following your suggestion, we can add an option to : when to show results

So the options will be :

Always / When poll ends / After voting

After voting : correspond to your 1st suggestion

Always : correspond to your 2nd suggestion

Are you ok with that ?

Will you be able to hover over the choices and see the users that have voted?

Yes of course, but, we must limit the number of voters to 50 or 100 or perhaps a max number specified by the poll creator.

Because in some companies there is hundreds of voters, we can try, too, a scrolling list of voters, the creator will see if he/she hover over the choices.

We began adding the voters list, as you can see in the image. Every time, the poll creator, click on "Voters" link, he/she will see an updated list of voters for that answer, in the bottom of the poll.

Thanks!  Sorry for the late response but we just got out of our planning week.  I am having the confluence ADMIN download the latest version and I will test.

Christopher Mackin November 1, 2019

Ok!  I have tested the enhancement...  When I hit "Voters" it indeed gives me the list of voters for "YES" and "NO".  However, others that are voting are not able to see the voters.  I expected that "When to show the results" would be a trigger for allowing all users to see the status prior and after voting but it is not the case.

I try to understand, correct me, please, if not true

You want, for any voter, to be able to see the list of voters  ?

Do you mean by showing the status,  is showing for voter the colored lines, before and after voting ? if it is the case, the option, 'when to show results' must be set to 'Always' by poll creator

Ok.  You have added a nice option that I (the person that created the poll) is allowed to see who voted "YES" or "NO".  This is great feature and nice enhancement but I want all people with access to the page that contains the poll to be able to see who voted.  In doing so, everyone knows who they need to speak with to move them from a "NO" to a "YES".  Please let me know if I am not being clear...

Ok, we will try to add the option, to let or no, others see the voters and will inform you when the new version will be ready.

Have a nice day.

The suggested feature is now available in version 1.0.3, with a new option, that shows voters to page viewers.

Please note that poll creator need to choose for  'Show voters list to' the checkbox 'All users viewing the page'

Hello Chris,

Welcome to Atlassian Community. It's nice to meet you.

It would help us if you could let us know the name of the add-on that you're using to create your polls. This isn't a built-in feature of Confluence, so you are likely using one of the add-ons listed on Marketplace. Please let us know which one of those add-ons you are using.

Thank you!

Regards,

Shannon

The add-on name is "Polls for Confluence".

Chris,

Thank you for confirming that. I see the vendor of a similar add-on has replied to you in the other thread, but if you want to contact the vendor of Polls for Confluence directly, you can raise a ticket in their support queue, and they should be able to help you with that.

Let me know if you have any trouble!

Regards,

Shannon
