How do I get the value of an attribute of the type object reference in EazyBI?

Hi!

Let's say I have three objects in Insight, Object A, B and C

The objects A and B have two attributes, one with a numeric (A:1 and B:3 for example) value and the other of the type object reference. Both of them are referring to object C.

I want to import the objects and attributes in eazyBI and create a pivot table. When I do this I don't see the expected information, I don't see any values at all.

Expected:

||Object||Attribute||

|C|4 (3+1)|

How do I do this?

Hi Micha

eazyBI imports numeric and object reference attributes for objects. You can import numeric attribute as measure and property. You can import object reference attribute as a dimension and property.

You would like to use reference object dimension instead of object dimension to represent object C. If object A and object B are objects with the same type, then you should use a measure based on the numeric attribute. It should automatically sum up values.

Please take into account. Each object type has a different set of attributes. If object A and object B are objects of different types, they will not share the same attributes and will have different properties, measures, dimensions in eazyBI. You should create a calculated measure to address them properly based on object type.

Please check your eazyBI version as well. We have had some problems with attribute imports in some eazyBI versions.

Insight configuration varies a lot in different companies. Please share more details about your Insight configuration and objects you would like to pull in eazyBI reports to support@eazybi.com for a more detailed answer.

Hi Daina,

Thanks for the reply. Indeed, I forgot to say that A & B are of the same object type, but C isn't. How should I create a calculated measure to address this properly?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Micha,

If object A and object B are the objects of the same type, they have the same attributes to object A and numeric field. Please import the object type attributes into eazyBI.

Import numeric attribute as Measure

Import referenced object as Dimension (I assume this references to object C).

Then you can use this attribute measure on Columns and the attribute custom dimension on Rows (or Pages and use as a filter). This custom dimension should have object C.

You can add object dimension to Rows and select Object type for objects A and Object B.

Here is my example. I have object type Asset with objects Phone and Laptop. I have object type Person. Asset has an attribute Owner (reference to person Object). Asset has cost representing how much it costs.

I imported Asset Cost as measure and Asset Owner as dimension. I can build a report with Asset Cost sum on Columns. Asset Owner dimension on Pages and Object with Object type Asset selected on Rows.

Hi Daina,

Let me get your example. We have Object Types Person and Asset, but what is missing is the object type between those: let's say Category. What I mean by that is, A person is an owner of a category and therefore owner of all the objects in that category. So:

Person: John

Category: Laptop

Assets: Mac and Dell with two different costs

How can I make a pivot so you can show the total cost of both assets which John is responsible for.

I hope you understand me. Thanks in adance.
