Insight: import with default values

Hello,

I would like to import data and set default values for some specific fields.

My current use case is to automatically assign objects a status depending on their existence in the source data:

  • new entry in source data -> status "running"
  • entry not in source data -> status "disabled"

The second update is possible with the "update" in missing values, I'm just missing the first part.

Would anyone have an idea on how to achieve this?

Greetings,
Michael

Hi Michael.

If the initial Status ("Running") is not included within the Imported Data - you can most probably create an Automation Rule to run a Groovy Script or fire an Insight REST API to update the "Status" of a newly created Object where "Status" IS EMPTY.

There is no such an option available out of the Box.

Kind regards,

Thank you very much for the suggestion, it definitely works, although we'll have to see if this remains feasable with more and more imports.

Michael - I'm new to Insights and am trying to get our LDAP integrated into InSight with limited success  - do you have any documentation/suggestions that you could share (minus) any proprietary information?    I'm just trying to get some user information into Insight at this time - limited documentation to try to get this to work.

Hello Dave,

I'm sorry, but besides the official documentation here I don't have anything on my own.
Do you have any specific issues?

My biggest issue was how to actually create the objects and import configuration, so what I did at first was to let Insight automatically (try) to create the appropriate Insight objects and import configuration.

Depending on the size of your LPAD infrastructure this may take quite some time and maybe even fail (as it happened to me).

I attached you two screenshots of my configuration where I import information from our LDAP to a user object (called "Benutzer"), hope this may already be of help.import config 1.pngimport config 2.png

If you have any further questions, just ask away :)

Greetings,
Michael
