Send webhook when mentioned in the comment

Ralf Franz June 12, 2019

Hey all.

If someone is mentioned in an internal comment on @ ralf.franz @ myspace.de, I would like to send this a message via slack.

How can I do that?

All idears welcome.

Cheers

Ralf

Hey Ralf,

Firstly, I'd just like to let you know that we've got an open feature request for @mention notifications in the official Atlassian Jira for Slack app.

Since it looks like you're using the Automation for Jira plugin, I did some quick testing and found it was able to trigger on an at-mention.

The Automation for Jira plugin can use a Slack message as its action, so let's take a look at how to get that set up!

  1. Create a new Global rule
  2. Set the trigger to Issue Commented
  3. Set the condition to Compare two values
    1. Set the first value to comment.body
    2. Set the condition to 'contains'
    3. Set the second value to [~username] where username is the user's actual Jira username. Note that this is different from their @mention handle as you might see it displayed.
  4. Set the action to Send Slack message. You may need to set up a webhook URL in your Slack account first (instructions are provided on that page by the plugin) and you'll need to use the Slack userID (also instructions on the page) instead of the Slack user's @mention as well. The Slack userID will look like gibberish - example @D1K5UZW
  5. Save the rule!
