Xray's Usage of JIRA Issue

After a quick demo of Xray, it looks like a JIRA "issue" must be created for everything, i.e. a test case, test plan, test set, test execution, etc. Are current users finding this structure manageable when you have thousands of test cases for a single project/work effort?

we are currently using this format. What I have done is uploaded all my test cases from CSV into XRAY and added Test suite ID with it so its all organized. Once it's in the repo it's okay to use.

Thank you Amrith! One follow-up question, they mention ways to organize your test cases with a test plan issue type and a test set issue type. i know what these things are outside of the tool but not sure the difference between them in xray? What different benefits they bring?

It’s same as Test management concepts. As an example , let’s say I have 10 test cases to test login functionality . I add these tests to a test set called login test suite. 
now there is a new release for login in staging environment. I create a test plan and in this test plan I can import all tests from the test set. 
When I am ready to execute I create a test execution and run all tests. If there is a quick fix for same release, a new execution can be created. More info

Ok perfect! It was hard to get that from their high-level descriptions of each. This is very helpful! I'm trying to decide on a tool and I'm heavily leaning towards Xray but wanted to make sure the basics are covered by the tool. Thanks again!

It’s hard to understand the tool without using it tbh. You can ask X-ray support to give you guest access and check it out I guess.also X-ray server and X-ray cloud are a bit different :)

Which one would you prefer X-ray server and X-ray cloud, how much difference they have.

Have been using XRay cloud for a while now. Since we are using JIRA cloud it was easier to to use the cloud version and it has some customisation features. 
I have noticed that XRAY server is far more customisable in terms of reporting and management features. I reckon depends on person to person. Why not try both :)

We have also been using Xray Cloud version and I will say there are many features of Xray not available in the Cloud version and only available in the Server version. I would recommend looking at the user guide for Cloud vs. Server and comparing the different functionality (things like reports, built in JQL queries, etc.). They may or may not make a difference to your team, but for our team we have had to implement many workarounds as the functionality we needed was only available in Server not Cloud.
