WBS Gantt does not import start and end data from the MS Project file correctly.

Roger Kessler August 24, 2023

Dear all,

I need to import some MS project schedules into Jira (WBS Gantt chart).

Unfortunately the start and end dates are not imported correctly.

Strangely, some (about 10%) are correct, many are simply set to a common date (2023/07/11) others seem to be fictitious.

So the tool is not usable. I cannot check all the dates and correct them by hand.

the data as stored in MS Project:

the same start and end data after import:

(This is a bit like chatGPT when fantasising  ;-))

The date format of MS Project / Jira / WBS Gantt is the same.

Furthermore: The duration is converted into days, regardless of what format it had before. For example: 16weeks => 16Days

Hello Roger 🙌🏻

Thank you for posting - Raphael from WBS Gantt-Chart team here.

We apologize for the late response and for the inconvenient, but regarding your concern and based on the information you shared, here are some suggestions to verify before importing your MS Project:

  • Ensure the date formatting is the same in both MS Project and WBS Gantt-Chart
  • Verify if timezones are same for both apps
  • Ensure if your duration parameter are all on the same measurement unit (like hours, or days, or weeks)

This can be a start for troubleshooting your issue, Roger, but after verifying the above points you still facing problems when after importing, share more details with us here, or if you want a deeper investigation, you can reach out to us through our Help Center Portal and raise a support ticket with us!

We are looking forward to your reply, Roger. Thank you in advance 😄

Hello Roger 🙌🏻

Thank you for posting - Raphael from WBS Gantt-Chart support team here.

We are sorry that you're facing this issue when importing your project. We had issues with MS Project Version 2204 (Build 15128.20178) and later, so some issues are not import correctly.

If this is your case, our current workaround is rolling back MS Project to Version 2203 (Build 15028.20228) and re-saving the mpp file, this probably will solve your problem.

To perform this workaround:

  1. Open MS Project
  2. Disable automatic updates from Account -> Office Updates
  3. Run the command prompt as administrator
  4. Execute the following command
  5. cd %programfiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun
  6. Execute the following command to roll back Office to version 15028.20228
  7. officec2rclient.exe /update user updateversion=16.0.15028.20228
  8. Wait for rollback to complete
  9. Go to Account -> About Project and check that the version has been rolled back to 15028.20228
  10. Open the mpp file that cannot be imported correctly and save it as a separate file with a name
  11. Run the import using the newly saved mpp file

This should cover your needs, Roger. After that, if you're still facing issues when importing even with this workaround, please let us know.

Kind Regards,
