What order are automations run in?

Are they run in the order they are listed on the automation listing screen?  If so, can the order be changed?

Thanks much!

Hi Anthony,

For performance reasons we currently don't make any guarantees about the order in which rules are processed.

If you need to run one rule after another then, you probably need to look at triggering the second rule with a custom event.

E.g.:

  • Rule 1:
    • Trigger: Some event
    • Action: Publish custom event "trigger rule 2"
  • Rule 2: (also make sure this has the "allow rule trigger" checkbox ticked in 'Rule details')
    • Trigger: Multiple issue events trigger with "trigger rule 2" event selected
    • Actions: Whatever you need to perform

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
Andreas
