Hi,
In our company we have the cloud version of the Jira running. We have all the resources in the Dev and the Project teams in Jira. But when it comes to using the Xray for testcases or taking the reports only the Quality team is using it and it is a team of just 6 people in the company.
If we take the user count we have around 70 users active on Jira. So when we try to purchase Xray plugin it is asking for the amount equivalent to 75 users whereas only a 6 member team will be using it. Even if we buy it nobody is going to use the test cases or reporting.
Is there a solution to get this sorted out?
So according to the costing table on the Xray site it should be coming around $10 flat for 6 users/month.
Hi @Bhaskar ,
That (unfortunatly) is how JIRA licenses are tiered. You pay for the highest tier you have on your instance. Even if only a few users will be using the app it is available to all so you are licensed for all.
Only work around you have is to have a separate instance for the QA team and only purchases the Xray Plugin for that.
It will complicate your workflow as you will need to integrate both instances most likely but other than that the license policy is what it is..
You'll need to weigh the cost of the instance + plugin + additional complication to the day to day work to the cost of just taking the higher tier :)
Good luck!

Hi @Bhaskar , there are many plugins for test management on marketplace. You can weigh costs across plugins, keeping the functionality that you need in mind and the complexity of using 2 instances as pointed out by Dirk. You can reach out to the teams for quick demos to make your decision, based on your test management needs.

Thank you @Rebecca Johnson Our needs are basic to prepare and run test cases and scenarios and attach that to a user story. Lets me know some plugin suggestions that do this part.

Hi @Bhaskar , There are 3 major types of test management systems, that I have seen on Jira.
1. Link to external full blown test management systems eg. TestRail Integration
2. Internal to Jira, which utilize the Jira ecosystem like issues to create test entities like cases, executions eg. XRay.
3. Internal to Jira but considering test management as a separate process, managing test entities as separate entities, thus offering in my opinion more intuitve test management. eg. Zephyr Scale and AIO Tests.
I am associated with - AIO Tests for Jira. It does allow quick preparation of cases and execution of testcases with traceability to stories and much more. The documentation covers the functionality.
