"HipChat for JIRA" only for locally installed HipChat server ?

We have a server installation of JIRA / Agile and Confluence and thinking about trying the small / simple / free HipChat-Client.
Can we just add this plugin here to our JIRA instance and connect it to the "central-Atlassian-HipChat-server" ?
Or do we need to install the HipChat server locally (and license it) so our JIRA can connect to the local HipChat instance ?

Hi Christopher!

According to the official documentation on the integration between JIRA and HipChat, when you have a locally installed JIRA it's possible to connect with both HipChat Cloud (online) and HipChat Server (hosted).

Please take a look at the docuement above and let me know if you have any doubts in the process. wink
