Hi everyone,

I’m new to Jira and just getting started with exploring its features for managing projects and tasks. The platform looks powerful, but it can feel overwhelming for beginners. I wanted to ask the community:

  • What’s the easiest or most helpful way to get up and running with Jira for the first time?

  • Are there any particular features, tutorials, or best practices you recommend for newcomers?

  • Did you have any “aha!” moments or tips you wish you’d known earlier when you first started using Jira?

Any advice, recommendations for guides, or just sharing your own beginner experiences would be really appreciated! Looking forward to learning from your stories and suggestions.

Thanks in advance

Hi @ashu patel ,

There is so much to Jira to get started really need some background on what you are looking to accomplish would help me point you in the right direction.

The best way to do is to create a project with a Template and start using it.    First are you Agile?  If so, create a Scrum or Kanban project with the Jira Software Templates and start exploring.

The biggest advantages of Jira (IMHO) are:

  • Workflows - Jira has advanced abilites to have a lot of functionality around workflows such as conditions, validators, and post-fucntions
  • Automation - Automation in Jira is a visual low code POWERFUL part of Jira and can really accomplish just about anything.
  • JQL - Understanding the Jire Query Language (JQL) is the foundation of Jira and most things are builot around JQL, and it is simple to use.  Everything is based upon Variable condition Value (such as reporter = Ahsu)
  • Custom fields - There are a ton of custom fields that can be created in Jira
  • Software Boards - The boards are powerful in Jira and help create a more visual environment

Hope that helps.

Robert
