Hi Attlasian,
My source tree did not start in my windows 10 local and so I troubleshooted by deleting the attlasian folder in the ......./Local/AppData directory, uninstalled sourcetree and then I tried installing the Sourcetree again but while installing the source tree icons visible for 10 seconds and the application does not start,I have tried multiple versions but could not start my sourcetree application
In my Source tree folder(Local\Atlassian\SourceTree) I am only having
analytics_gas_upload Folder and
sourctree.log file which is empty
Solutions are appreciated.
For me, the fix was to

Thank you very much. Worked for me as well. BTW, after doing this, my credentials were wrong - don't understand why. In Windows 10, had to go into AppData/LocalAttlassian/SourceTree to delete the passwd file; and restart sourcetree so it would re-prompt. After doing that I could pull successfully.

Initially this seemed to only partially work for me: after the initial registration it crashed again before showing the actual UI. It turned out that I was running a slightly older version and updating to the latest version fixed the issue.

Also worked for me. Looks like today's Windows 10 update confused Sourcetree, based on all this activity here today; any chance this is a Sourcetree bug that can be fixed so that it doesn't happen again after the next Windows update? (How would anyone with less genius insight than Simon Hughes know that this folder deletion is the way to work around this bug?) Note that I am one version behind, running 3.4.12 (current is 3.4.13, apparently).

What should i do?
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
@Shailesh Joshi there are multiple reasons for this error. Check below points
Double-check the repository URL: Ensure that you have entered the correct repository URL in Sourcetree. Make sure there are no typos, missing characters, or extra spaces in the URL. It should be in the format https://bitbucket.org/username/repository-name.git
Verify your authentication: If the repository requires authentication, ensure that you have provided the correct credentials (username and password, or SSH key) in Sourcetree. Double-check that your credentials are accurate and up-to-date.
Check your network connection: Ensure that you have a stable internet connection. Sometimes, connectivity issues can cause problems when trying to access remote repositories. Try accessing other websites or services to verify your network connectivity.
Review your firewall or proxy settings: If you are behind a firewall or using a proxy server, there might be restrictions or configuration issues that prevent Sourcetree from connecting to Bitbucket. Check your firewall settings or proxy configurations and ensure that they allow the necessary network traffic

For me SourceTree didn't start after an update. I looked into the %AppData/Local/SourceTree folder and tried running SourceTree.exe and Update.exe, and then again as admin. Every time it didn't work.
I saw I had two folders, app-3.4.9 and app-3.4.10. The second folder was empty. I deleted it, and suddenly SourceTree worked again. I think it was a faulty update, but I'm not sure.

I believe the problem is caused by a failed update. Running the update 3.4.11 from the yellow flag top left in window fails with:
Method not found: 'Void SharpCompress.Readers.IReaderExtensions.WriteEntryToFile(SharpCompress.Readers.IReader, System.String, SharpCompress.Readers.ExtractionOptions)'.
Then Sourcetree fails to launch.

Hi
Sourcetree, the application, installs in the to %localappdata%/Sourcetree folder, its configuration files go in %localappdata%/Atlassian/Sourcetree.
inside %localappdata%/Sourcetree there should be a Sourcetree.exe and a versioned folder like app-3.0.17.
The Sourcetree.exe is actually a wrapper to the real .exe which is app-3.0.17/Sourcetree.exe.
Can you try running each of the two Sourcetree.exe files?
If neither work can you provide any Event Viewer errors or probably more useful is anything in the %locaappdata%/Atlassian/Sourcetree/Sourcetree.log ?
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
None of this works and also my sourcetree.log file is empty
Actually what I did was before uninstalling, I deleted the atlassian folder in my %localappdata% and tried installing again.
Now while installing the source tree icon is visible for 10 seconds and does not start after that.

Does the %localappdata%/Sourcetree folder exist?
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
So there are Sourcetree.exe files, but double clicking them appears to do nothing and there is nothing in the Event Viewer or in the %locaappdata%/Atlassian/Sourcetree/Sourcetree.log ?
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
To be honest I'm not sure what to suggest.
When you do try starting Sourcetree.exe can you confirm that it is not running in the Task Viewer? Just in case it is running but is off screen etc.

That all looks fine.
Can you check permissions on the folder, we have seen odd behavior occasionally because of that, but because it installs into your user folder it is unlikely.
Can you also try the latest 3.0.17 installer?

Hi
Unfortunately they aren't really errors, just over enthusiastic logging by Squirrel.Windows that essentially must indicates it hasn't found a previous install.

Hi, my starting assumption would be there is an issue with the .NET installation.
Can you try re-installing .NET 4.7.2 and updating Sourcetree to 3.1.3 or higher?

@minnsey Hello, I know it's a bit too late but just wanted to let you know that I had an identical problem and neither reinstalling Sourcetree or .NET fixed it.
Finally it turns out the problem was I had the Windows Management Instrumentation service stopped and disabled. Restarting that service solved it.
Maybe you could change something so at least it gives a little more of info when this happens, because currently to find the cause is quite hard.
Regards

I was having exactly the same problem.
@Javier Dominguez pointed the way to solution.
For me, it was not enough to just restart the windows service!
I was forced to remove the files from the "C:\Windows\System32\wbem\Repository" folder and restart the computer for the OS to recreate the files.
I followed this tutorial: https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002430638-How-can-I-repair-WMI-Windows-Management-Instrumentation-service-
SourceTree needs an urgent indication for this issue, because it was pretty boring to find out what was going on.

In my case when encountering this error, I checked and realised I was a few patch releases behind current, even though I had not been prompted about any updates for a good while. Just download and installing the latest patch release got me back in action.

Same story here.
OS Windows 11 Pro - It wouldn't open for me either. I just redownloaded the program and ran it to install. Opened up after that.
