Since installing Sourcetree 1.9.5.0 I now regularly see this error when switching branches. Closing and reopening SourceTree fixes the problem.
git -c diff.mnemonicprefix=false c core.quotepath=false checkout feature/branchname
fatal: Unable to create 'D:/projectname/develop/.git/index.lock': File exists.
If no other git process is currently running, this probably means a
git process crashed in this repository earlier. Make sure no other git
process is running and remove the file manually to continue.
Completed with errors, see above.
Is this a config issue on my PC?
Answered my own question it's a bug https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/SRCTREEWIN-6070
