Why does changing search field in "File Status" changes file sorting?

Every time I change anything in search field of the "File Status" window, search filters are always defaulting to "All files, sorted by file status". We have a really big repository and when search "falls back" to all files, application hangs for quite a while, rendering this feature practically "almost" useless. If I am fast enough I can change it back to modified before application hangs in searching, but it's no very user friendly. Also, search field is located in a very confusing place for this window. I get it, that it's a continuation of the interface as it's placed in the same place in other windows, but filters and grouping are placed in the other corner making it very unintuitive for me. I've been using Sourcetree for around 5 years and only just now noticed that there is a search field in File Status.
