Is there an API we can use to fetch status information?

We would like to show a banner when there are status outages in our app. Does Statuspage offer some sort of api we can hit to fetch the status information for our back end services?

You can use the below Get Uptime data for a component endpoint to fetch the uptime status for a component:
https://developer.statuspage.io/#operation/getPagesPageIdComponentsComponentIdUptime 

and use the below endpoint to fetch the uptime status for a component group:
https://developer.statuspage.io/#operation/getPagesPageIdComponentGroupsIdUptime
