One of my absolute favorite things to do with Confluence is gather information from different tools into one singular spot.
The great embed features Atlassian provides makes it perfect to gather Miro-boards, Google sheets, links to Slack chats, add a video or gif.
Most people agree that reading a text only document is kind of boring, so inserting these visual aids and/or interactive elements, you not only bring life to your document but also get people interested to read through it.
Hi,
It's a great tool and possibly infinitely configurable. We are new at this tool and before jumping in boots and all, I'm going to do the basic training. Is there any advice about setting the config up that I can grab from you? Thanks
I have not been a part of configuring Confluence from scratch, it was already in place when I took ownership of it.
What I can advice you on, is to make sure that the default permission groups you set is not something that is often changing.
When I acquired ownership of Confluence, access to it was managed through Department groups, which meant that whenever we did re-orgs (which happens quite often in a scale-up) users lost access as the newly formed department was not granted viewing rights to spaces.
So either go with a default "viewing" group layer that is set as default permissions, and then alter special permissions on space basis. Or, if you have very static groups that are not subject to groups, you could grant access through those.
Another thing to consider is to early try to establish a way of working with Confluence, so it doesn't evolve naturally in different places of the company, leading to different uses.
I also love the embed features in Confluence! I'm often surprised by how well certain things are embedded and by simply pasting the URL. I know there have been a few times that I've been digging to find out how to embed something, but all I had to do was paste the URL!
I definitely agree that no one wants to read a wall of text!
