Hi Atlassian team,

Trello Beta Feedback – Loving It (and One Thing Keeping Me from Full Obsession). I wanted to share a quick note on how much I’m enjoying the Trello beta—especially the new features you've rolled out. Here’s what’s working beautifully for me:

What I’m Loving
Email-to-board magic: The ability to send emails straight to my Trello board and see them land in the inbox is a chef’s kiss. It’s been a game-changer for staying organized throughout the day—projects remain visible, and nothing slips through the cracks.

The “Complete” radio button: This tiny feature is doing big things. It makes it easy to power through tasks and move swiftly to the next card. Simple, fast, satisfying.

What’s Holding Me Back
The only thing keeping me from going full Trello all day, every day is the calendar integration with Outlook. Once that’s in place… well, let’s just say:

“I will be in Trello ALL DAY, SON!” — Schmidt, New Girl ;)

Looking forward to seeing what’s next and hoping Outlook integration is just around the corner.

Keep up the great work!

quick feedback about the Beta: I have many email addresses from which I'm sending cards onto Trello. right now I'm using the unique board email address which is easier than having to use only the email I have registered with

Introduce a unified/consistent card moving experience. In some cases the card blinks (web app on Mac) meaning the card will disappear then reappear when landing in a new spot on a column. Even though it is a second it takes you out of the moment and becomes noticeable when you move more and more cards around. In other cases the card tilts always to the right (the iPad mobile app) or shrinks to a small black or white rectangle depending on light or dark mode then expands back to regular size when landing in the new spot (web app for iPad).
The card should retain its size and shape and not tilt when moved around. How it looks on the column is how it should look when moved around. The card should maintain visual consistency whether sitting static on a column or moved around.

2025 onward- Trello should evolve beyond columns and finally introduce swimlanes/rows by default instead of as a power-up.
Maybe introduce this as a grouping feature...

The Planner feature should be accessible without connecting to a third-party calendar. This should be a built-in global calendar feature that works across all boards whereas the calendar view is per board.
Connecting to a third-party calendar should be an option not a requirement that will therefore lock you out of using it.
The Planner feature should have an hourly timetable along with daily, weekly, monthly and yearly columns. This would be a timesaver since we wouldn't have to type all the dates, weeks, months and years as column headers any more. We should also be able to mix and match these special planner columns so we can have one column for the current date beside a column for the current week beside a column for the current month beside a column for the current year. That way everything is put into perspective.

2025 onward- what if Trello evolved beyond the Kanban board and introduced a new view where users can place the cards directly on the background? What if the column headers became collapsible/expandable section headers? What if we could move the card between sections?
What if the board view was retconned to become a Kanban view and this new view became the board view?

2025 onward- what if the "back of the card" evolved to become a doc or a page? What if Trello introduced Trello Docs or Trello Pages that were accessible from the Home feature along with the boards? That way we can work on them without opening a board.
What if the "back of the card" evolved so the description section expanded to become a full-page with its slash command functionality. Maybe users could choose the page layout so the card properties can continue to exist on the right side or move up to the top of the page...
Imagine you took an index card or a sticky note and then a piece of 8x11 paper. Then pretend the index card or sticky note could expand and transform into the paper while the paper could collapse and transform back into the index card or sticky note.
This is how I see the “back of the card” evolving into a new Doc or Page while still maintaining its Trello card aspect on the column.

What if the Inbox feature became accessible outside Trello in order to gain greater use? What if it existed along the top right hand toolbar on a Mac where all the other app icons exist? So a new Trello icon would live there triggering the Inbox feature. What if it also existed as an Apple Safari extension?

Update and expand the card cover colors to become as expansive as the color palette whiteboard apps provide for their sticky notes. Introduce lighter tone colors along with the current brighter tone colors…
There are only ten colors available for card covers as of April 2025.

What if there was a grouping feature for individual boards that was on par with how our boards are grouped on the Home page with a Starred Boards sections, Recently Viewed section and Your Workspaces sections? That way we can group cards directly on the background. Just imagine you swap the boards with the Trello cards and they were collapsible sections and we could move the cards between them...

The people at HonorHealth are not happy about the beta. We don't use Google so the Planner is unnecessary clutter, the floating menu is annoying. That being said, the inbox feature will be well received. I still don't understand why the HOME section has not been improved. We all work on several 5-12 projects at a time and there is nowhere to visualize all the tasks (checklist items) are attached to you. Disappointing. The app is getting more cluttered over time, reminds me on Instagram.

I like where some of this is going, but am a bit frustrated with the Kanban board.  As a freelancer there's no other product I like, but it's definitely not geared for solo entrepreneurs:

  • LIKE: I get the 'planner' and inbox idea, and like that the functions that were on the right rail are above at the top.
  • WISH: I wish I could just delete a bunch of things that I will never use - like members, comments or attachments - and have the UI be streamlined.  While I get that not having the options on the right make this cleaner, the card itself when opened is far smaller.  I'd like to see more white space and that the card itself be larger - I usually have a description and checklist and now I have a lot more scrolling to do.
  • WONDER: if there's a way for us to opt out of the beta, or offer two types of designs - a Helvetica inspired minimal design with white space, and this redesigned Beta.  While I have become a Trello convert, there's a lot that still would help to change.

@Rachel M_ Murray thanks for trying out the new Beta experience and and sharing your feedback! We are indeed working on a more streamlined look for Trello cards (I agree with you that we have way too many buttons right now; some of those buttons can be hidden)

on the new version of the card i cannot see the automation anymore, like the automation function that i use the most which is check and uncheck the list for monthly task that i do. It will great if it can be maintain the feature of the automation button inside the card.

I miss the menu bar on the left hand side, it feels weird having my first list pressed right up against the left hand side of my monitor. Also I really wish you could introduce an option to not automatically add all images to cards that are emailed into the inbox. I mostly forward emails to trello with items that need doing but it automatically includes peoples signature images which are really annoying and i have to remove every one of them manually. The inbox is a nice idea and in theory means I don't have to have a Inbox "list" in each of my boards, except I have automation set up on my board that helps me categorise and add members etc to each card that arrives in that inbox list, so now i have to move cards i email to the new inbox, to my old inbox list so the automation runs, then to their final destination to make sure the automation happens, fixable if you just make butler automations be able to run on inbox cards (so i can then delete my inbox "list" on the board) but otherwise renders it useless for me.

But the signature images thing is the biggest issue for me, I mean look at the state of it:

Which of the beta features will be available to free account users once it goes live, and which won't?

Victoria May 10, 2025

(Also, someone earlier suggested changing all the columns for each list to rows instead and making that the default for everyone, and I'd like to say please, please do not do that. It would be such a drastic and fundamental change to your user interface, and most people have chosen Trello because of how it works right now  not because of the way it could work if one guy willing to jump through customization hoops to suit his own personal use case succeeds in imposing his preferences on everyone else.)

Aren’t swimlanes an important part of a kanban board? It’s 2025 maybe it’s time Trello introduces them as a feature themselves instead of as a third-party power-up. Give it more importance.
By default I mean its there for you to use and incorporate into your board like anything else is along the top right side of the board or along the right side on the back of a Trello card. It’s not there when you create a blank board- it’s not imposed on the board from the get-go. It’s a default Trello-first feature there for you to use when you want to. It would be similar to Notion’s sub-grouping feature.
For example, if we have three columns that say Todo, Doing and Done but each swimlane would be a name for another family member Mom, Dad, Amy, John.

It’s 2025. What if Trello evolved beyond exclusively having columns and finally added swimlanes/rows as well? Not replace the columns with rows but incorporated them in addition to the columns. Is this worded better?
It would be like the filter tool- a personal choice.
But since it’s 2025 maybe it’s time to elevate a swimlanes/rows power-up to a first-class Trello feature for the second half of this decade.
