Feature Request: Eisenhower Productivity Matrix Review for List or Inbox

Victoria Cleary April 8, 2025

It would be great if there was a way to review a given list or my inbox by assigning items into an 'Eisenhower grid' or productivity matrix. I find myself currently screenshotting the list in question or writing them out briefly on post-its to sort and organize on a whiteboard , which is a bit silly. Or, the alternative is working through several cards and assigning them as needed.

If you're not familiar - the matrix operates using 2 axes - the X axis is split into Urgent or Not Urgent, and the Y axis is split into Important or Not Important.

I'm imagining an option in the List menu for "List review" that opens a window similar to opening a card. The 4 quadrants are labeled and you can assign a list or label (or possibly other field settings) to each quadrant. Then you assign cards from your list (possibly on the left or bottom of the screen) to one of the quadrants. Once you are done, you're given a warning if any cards are not assigned, possibly an overview of changes that will be made for each group of tickets, and then a final button to submit for an update.

Hi @Victoria Cleary ,

I like this matrix. I haven't tried using it before but it seems like a helpful framework.

Could you today do this kind of thing using Trello just without the visual of the quadrant? Like do you have a board with a list for Do, Decide, Delegate and Delete? You could use the new Inbox as the landing spot and the board with the 4 lists to create that drag-and-drop experience during assignment.

Your idea to have help organizing a list of tasks in the Inbox is something we are considering as well possibly with the help of AI. This is an interesting take on that; using a specific productivity framework.

Thanks for taking the time to share your idea.

The matrix is just a principle, it doesn't have to be a matrix, if you understand the principle then it's straightforward to use labels and assign those priorities to the cards in question...

I use this method to assign priorities using labels and then have predefined workview lists with each label filtered accordingly.

It works with way Trello is setup, and there's no need to change anything in the established UI.
