Feedback from one month of running the Beta

I've been one month in the beta now so I thought I share my thoughts and observations:

Floating bottom bar + its popup

  • Despite a month in, I still find it mentally hard to have to go down to change board (my mouse naturally seeks to the top left as there is where the Board "start" / where the name is, then I remember that it is not there and move the mouse down, but not a good sign that even a month in it does not feel natural
  • I noticed that I now always change board by searching. This is good for me (I always search in Operating Systems, but what forced me to change this behavior was the lack of an alphabetical list of the boards, so don't really know if this should be classified as a good or bad behavior (one could fear people that generally do not search will have a worse time)
  • Not a big big deal but it feels visual distracting that the floating bar overlaps the horizontal scrollbar (at least on Windows)
  • Overall: I would still prefer that we did not have this floating "3rd place for navigation" (top left + top right + bottom center). I would move the 4 buttons Top left before/after the Board name where they belong IMHO

Inbox and Calendar

  • At no point during the month have I felt the urge to use these so their icons are essentially just in the way IMHO. I might just not be the right target group for these, but I think a lot of other people will feel the same so properly a good idea to give the option to not show these buttons

Other

  • As mentioned other places, limiting number of PowerUp buttons to be allowed is wrong. There are fine options to control thats shown in the powerup menu, so if a user want , say, 10 powerup board buttons then let them (because that is what make them productive)
  • Overall going out of the beta and seeing the old classic top menu feel rather old-school so things are growing on me.
  • Making the Search bar at the top bigger have not incentiviced me to use it more (despite me saying i like search, this one does not do it for me as it is cross board search and that is not what i look for when I'm on a board. So in the perfect world for me we only had a single topbar without the search box (or much smaller/popup) to get more vertical space for cards instead
  • The Create button feel oddly placed next to search... They are not related in anyway so it is wrong to group them in same area
  • Separating the User icons and the Share button (that invite new users) feels wrong. I would move the user icons back to the old position as it is secondary information anyway and perhaps experimenting with removing the word "Share" from the button (it is not really a share feature but a user management feature so the word share have always felt work IMHO
  • While you are cleaning up anyway, why not remove the visibility icon from the toolbar and have it in settings only (For 99% of boards it is something you do once so no need for this to be this up front and center)... Same could be said for the Automation button but to a lesser degree
  • Have you concidered taking the Filter button and moving it up next to the search-bar... Filter and search should cognative be grouped togeter and in the new design you do not have the word "Filter" anymore so it is kind of lost among the other icons (which would be a shame if people used it less because of this)

Here is a visual mockup of better design in my opinion (Top: My Suggestion, Bottom: Current Design) [Click to see full resolution]
