Overview
I'd like to request a new automation capability for Trello that would create a two-way synchronization between checklist item assignments and linked card memberships.
Requested Functionality
Checklist Item Assignment → Linked Card Membership:
- When a user is assigned to a checklist item that contains a linked card
- Automatically add that user as a member to the linked card
Linked Card Membership → Checklist Item Assignment:
- When a user is added to or removed from a card
- Automatically update the assignment of the corresponding checklist item that links to this card
Use Case
This feature would be especially valuable for teams that use checklist items to track dependencies or related tasks across multiple cards. It would ensure that the right people always have visibility into all relevant work items without requiring manual updates in multiple places.

- Reduces manual work of adding members to multiple related items
- Prevents situations where someone is assigned a checklist item but can't access the linked card
- Maintains consistency between related work items
- Improves team visibility and collaboration
Implementation Suggestion
This could be implemented as a new automation rule type in the existing automation capabilities, allowing users to enable this sync behavior on specific boards where needed.
Has anyone else found this functionality useful or have workarounds for this use case? I'd appreciate any insights from the Trello team on whether this might be considered for a future update.
