Automatic sequential reference number

I need each card to automatically have a reference number on it - so that it shows up every time you start a new card.

Can anyone advise if this is possible (I am on free version at the moment) and if so, how to do it.

Sorta...each new card on a board has a unique number so you could tap into that using this:

1. Create a custom field called "Card Number"
2. Set an automation:
