Custom fields based on specific card template

Are custom fields configurable based on a specific card template within a given board, or do they have to be shared for all cards (irrespective of card template) on a board?  My goal is to have a single board with multiple card templates, each having their own custom fields.

Trello custom fields are shared across all cards.

You could use something like Amazing Fields though to do what you are describing.  (see: https://docs.amazingpowerups.com/article/4-how-to-choose-which-files-to-show-on-cards)
