How to Copy a Comment Posted on One Card to a Linked Card?

Lynne March 9, 2022

I have rules that automatically post a comment with the username, date, time, and Purchase Order Number from the Custom Field I created.

How do I get the comment posted on one card to copy onto the linked card(s)?

For example, I have a card on a list called, "Materials."

A copied/linked card is also sitting in a list called, "Machine."

When the custom field for the Purchase Order is entered in the card, I would like to like the comment automatically posted to be copied to the linked card.

Currently, there is no way to copy data entered into a custom field to a linked card. Therefore, I built rules that would post a comment to the original card once the custom field "PO#" is filled out and the rules that copy that comment to the linked card.

The problem I encounter is, the 2nd cards' custom field for the PO # is blank because the data entered in the 1st cards custom field can't be mirrored on the linked card. Therefore, when it performs the action of copying the comment to the linked card, it copies the entire comment except it leaves out the PO # in the posted comment because that card's field is empty.

(FYI, I am not interested in a power-up because they perform 2-way mirroring and I only want one-directional mirroring so all cards linked are updated with the same accurate information)

Hi @Lynne ! I answered your question around copying custom field values to linked cards in your other post, but if you still want to copy comments over, you can use a similar command using the {commenttext} variable.

Just be aware of looping behaviour. I'd suggest diffirenciating the trigger card vs the card that needs the action applied to in your rule.
