How to get an uploaded card image to not be displayed as a cover image?

Every time I add an image in a Trello card, that image appears as a cover. I would then have to go back and remove the cover. Is there a way to add a photo onto a card so that it is only attached as a comment and is not the cover photo for the card?

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

You can turn covers off for the whole board in "Options" > "Settings". 

and if you need the cover feature on your board then Just click "Remove Cover" from the attachment section on the back of the card.
