How to limit what can be edited to a board for normal user.

Restrictions for normal users.

For instance, If I create a project template with "Check" boxes for task status/ completion and allow comments to tasks, however I do not want users to create task edit project templets or possibly create cards.

How to accomplish this?

Hi Mike, Welcome to the Atlassian community! I hope you’re enjoying Trello.

In this case, what you described as a "normal user" is called an "observer" inside Trello and is a Premium feature. To sum up, when it comes to permissions on a board, there are different types of Trello users:

  • Board Members  - A 'Normal' member is simply a member of a board. Normal members can edit or add to the board without restrictions.
  • Observers  - An observer is a member with read-only access to a board. (Observers are only available to Workspaces with Trello Premium).
  • Guest - A normal member of the board. Guests are not members of the Workspace that the boards belong to. Guest members can edit or add to the board without restrictions.
  • Board Admin - A board admin is a member of the board who can do anything on the board. Board admins are marked by the blue and white chevron in the bottom right corner of their avatar.

You can upgrade your team to Trello Premium free trial (14 days), which adds several features to make managing teams. You can sign up for Premium here: https://trello.com/free-trial.

In case you want to keep a free workspace, you can opt to set your board as public but doing so would permit anyone visible access to that board, if a user elects to make the board public, the setting clearly states that making a board public will make it visible to anyone on the internet and Google. In addition, a board’s current visibility settings are displayed persistently at the top of every board.

I hope this information helps, have a great day.
