I have a free account and am not able to make a single board. Help please

I have been added to one of my friends boards, but literally no other boards and can't create any. It says I'm not allowed. What did I miss? TIA

You may be a guest in your friends workspace, and that's why you are not able to create new boards there. You can create a board in your own workspace (click on the Trello logo on top-left of your board to navigate to a different workspace). If you don't have your own workspace, then you can create one https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/creating-a-new-workspace/
