I am using Trello for my Christmas List. I appreciate excel will do everything that I want Trello to do, but prefer the look of Trello! Can I add amounts to the checklist items (i.e. the cost of each presents) so that when I export to excel, the numerical info is there?

There wouldn't be a way to make the cost a separate data field within the checklist item unfortunately. A way that you could do this, might be to use Custom Fields, where you can input the cost of each present into a separate custom field. If you go with this option, then you would probably need a separate card for each gift.
