Hi All.
It has not been long that I started using Trello for our Kanban Board. I'm still getting familiar with automations, power ups, tracking etc.
What I would really like is the option to enter on my Epic/Story cards the "estimated story points" (which our team decides during backlog meetings) and the "actual story points" (Which I add once the card is complete).
I would also like to track the average difference between the estimated and actual story points, thus making it better for our team to predict the effort needed.
Is there a possibility for some feature like that?
Your help will be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you!
There are a couple of power-ups that enable story points but none that I can see that do planned v actual.
Putting my Agile practitioner hat on, there is a reason why you don't do planned v's actual on story points. Story points aren't absolute, they are relative. They should also be derived by the team based on multiple factors including background knowledge, time and uncertainty...
Based on that, you cannot measure an actual...
What should be the focus to measure from sprint to sprint is the number of points you DONE for that sprint, which then gives you the estimate of how many points you can get DONE in the next sprint...
Any attempt to compare a planned v actual of a story point undermines the whole point of it.
From a technical perspective, you could compare an planned v actual number on Trello using Custom Fields + automation.
Custom fields
Planned time
Actual time
Variance
Automation
when custom fields "Planned time" and "Actual time" are completed in a card, set custom field "Variance" to {{%Planned time}} - {{%Actual time}}
Thank you!
