Dear Communiti team,

I’m encountering an issue with adding members to our Trello board on the Free plan. The board supports a maximum of 10 members, and we currently have 8 members. Despite this, I’m unable to add more collaborators to the board.

Could you please advise on how to proceed to resolve this?

Possible questions for you:

  • Is there a known limit or constraint on the Free plan that prevents adding more members even when under the stated limit?
  • Are there steps to refresh or reset the member quota?
  • Would upgrading to a paid plan or converting the board to a different type unlock this ability?

Any guidance or steps you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hey @Elisabetta Pavani

On the Trello Free plan, the limit is indeed 10 collaborators per Workspace (not just per board). That means:

  • Even if your current board shows only 8 members, you may already have reached the overall Free plan member limit across the Workspace.
  • The count includes all members across boards in the same Workspace (so if you have the same people on multiple boards, they still count once, but if you’ve added different people to other boards in that Workspace, they count toward the 10-member cap).

Quick tip: If you want more than 10 collaborators in the Workspace, you’ll need to move to Trello Standard or Premium, which lift the Free plan limit.

Thanks @Kinga_Getint ! I actually only created one board, which means only 8 members in total, but it still won't let me add any more. Could there be a bug?

Hmm, in that case it could be a bug I guess or kind of temporary glitch. In this situation you can still:

  • try inviting someone using their email address instead of their Trello username, just in case it’s a UI hiccup
  • log out/in or test in a private/incognito window to rule out browser cache issues

If none of that works, I’d recommend opening a ticket with Trello Support so they can look directly at your Workspace setup - they’ll be definitely able to confirm if it’s a bug on their side or if there’s something hidden in your Workspace member count.

Hope this clears up a little more! Fingers crossed for resolving this issue.

@Elisabetta Pavani I'm very happy to help! You can contact with support via this link:
contact

  • Choose your issue type and the product from the list
  • Make sure you’re logged in with the same Atlassian account that owns the Workspace.
  • You’ll be able to submit a ticket, and the Trello team can check your Workspace setup behind the scenes :)

I've already tried, but the only options are:
- talk to the community
- view the documentation

So I'm back to square one, which is why I contacted the community.

Ahhhh sure, you're right, this kind of support is indeed available for paid plans regarding Trello. Hmm, so I think the quickest option for now will be upgrading even temporarily to Standard or Premium that gives you access to Atlassian Support, you will be able to quickly submit a ticket.

Anyways, Atlassian staff and leaders of community here often jump in to conversations to troubleshoot - maybe it will work too! :)
