Sometimes we have cards with the same name on the board, which correspond to the same customer but different orders. Sometimes we combine multiple orders on the same card, but other times we don't. I'd like to be able to quickly identify if there are multiple orders (cards) from the same customer on the board without having to filter the card name (customer). This would also serve as a record in numbered order of entry. I was thinking of a rule that would modify the card name (for example, by adding a 02) if a card with that name (customer) already exists on the board. I don't know if this is possible or if it's just a bad idea I had on a Monday morning, haha. Maybe there are other options I'm not thinking about right now.
Hmmm, rolling numbers used to be possible using Butler automation before Trello bought it, with Global variables 🤦
There is an automation hack that can look for duplicates:
when a card is added to the board, lookup the card named "{triggercardname}" and rename the card "{triggercardname}-01"
I think with this as a basis, what you're asking can be done but I haven't had enough time or ☕ to figure out a solution.
I'm not beaten by much when it comes to Trello automation so mark this to revisit later in the week. Let me know if you come up with a solution otherwise.
BTW, if you were to use Make or Zapier (or any other of the automation tools), you could absolutely do this...
