Can I create rules based on roles (not individual team members)?

Hi, there! I'm trying to figure out if Trello will work better for our team than Asana, and I can't seem to find the answer to this question, so here goes: I want to be able to create rules based on roles, not individual people. Here are two examples:

  • “If Task1 is moved from the writing section to the editing section, notify the person who is listed as the editor for Task1.” (Not “If Task1 is moved from the writing section to the editing section, notify Meg.”)
  • “If Task2’s due date passes, notify person who is assigned to Task2.” (Not “If Task2’s due date passes, notify James.”)

Thanks in advance!

Meg

There may be other ways to do this but my suggestion would be to create a custom field called "Editor"  (probably a dropdown would work best) and store the email addresses of all your editors as options in the dropdown.

This would allow you to choose the editor for the task from the dropdown. Then, your rule would be, when Task is moved from writing to editing list, notify {{%Editor}

This article tells you how to call custom fields and use them in rules
