Can documents be viewed within Trello boards/cards rather than downloading them everytime? Downloading them causes several copies of the document to appear and not just the most up to date version whereas looking at the document from the link in a card should always take us to the latest version. Does anyone else have this issue and may have overcome it some how please?
It sounds like you're describing the situation correctly.
An attached document (one you upload to Atlassian servers) would always be a copy of the original, even if you've updated it elsewhere. However, it should show up as a preview, and not necessarily download, in my experience.
If that's the case, it would obviously be stored as document_(1).format and not replace the original document.format if it was downloaded to the same folder... This could be a browser setting, where you've not set the handler to show the file in the browser, like with a PDF?
When you paste a link to a document stored in a storage service (Dropbox, OneDrive) in the attachment field, it will appear as a (smart) link. I suppose depending on the service you would still be able to show a preview, and/or visit the external link that allows for downloading, or even editing, depending on what rights you have at that service.
