While using the watch feature on Trello, we observed that there are no e-mail notifications generated for updates to the card title or description fields. The notifications are provided for other actions such as user comments, attachments, changes to the due dates etc.

However, due to lack of notifications to the vital fields such as title and description, we are facing challenges at times.

Could somebody explain if there is any reason for NOT providing any notifications for updates to a card's title or description? Is there any way to enable it?

Thanks,

Yogesh

Hi Yogesh

I don't have a reason or explanation why Title/Description changes don't trigger notification, and there's not a way to get those notifications like you do for other changes directly through Trello.  There is, however, a workaround using Butlerbot automation.  Essentially, you can command the bot to make a comment on a card any time there are changes to the title or description.  There's several variations as well.

To add custom automation using Butlerbot, follow these steps:

  1. Add Butlerbot to your board here: https://www.butlerfortrello.com/dashboard.html
    1. -- A new list will be created titled "Butler"
  2. Add a new card to the Butler list, using the following text
    1. when the title of a card changes, post comment "{username} changed the title of this card from '{textbefore}' to '{textafter}' on {date} at {time}
    2. when the description of a card is changed, post comment "@{username} changed the description on this card from '{textbefore}' to '{textafter}' on {date} at {time}
  3. You can do the same for tracking label changes or due date removals
    1. when a label is removed from a card, post comment "@{username} removed the {labelcolor} label from this card on {date} at {time}"
    2. when a due date is deleted, post comment "{username} removed a due date!
