How effective is connecting Trello & Salesforce?

I work for a company that utilises both Salesforce and Trello, and it's been suggested that we try the Power-Up. The Power-Up seems slightly more advanced than what we need it for, when the users seem to be requesting it so that they can see their Trello boards from the Salesforce homepage. I see that the integration only runs from Salesforce > Trello, and not both ways, so that limitation already puts me off.

Ultimately I come down to 2 questions:

1. Can a user see the board from their Salesforce homepage?

2. If yes, does the user need to be a member of that board to see it?

Trello doesn't natively support displaying Trello boards on the Salesforce homepage. The Power-Up integration between Salesforce and Trello is a third-party solution that adds this functionality. The Power-Up must be installed and configured in both Salesforce and Trello in order to enable the display of Trello boards on the Salesforce homepage. However, as mentioned earlier, the Power-Up integration only runs from Salesforce to Trello and not vice versa.

@James Card It doesn't look like there is anyway for SalesForce to embed Trello in an iframe because of security measures to prevent clckjacking:

It's possible to create custom interface elements in Salesforce but they won't look like a Trello board. You could do things like put links to Trello cards into the description of comments or tasks in Salesforce.

@James Card what do your users need to see on the board and does the board need to exchange data with SF back and forth? Those will be the specifics needed. Having said that let me list some the options I had investigate.

There is the simple embed options in which the board / card is shown as compact form and you can embed it on any webpage. Obviously, if it is card, that HTML code will probably need to pre-determine with a bit more code or have an api to do that dynamically.

The API endpoint can also just return any HTML or Json or redirect you.

Then there is the more detailed integration with Salesforce and Trello modules. Both exist on the platform that I am working on. While I have not work specifically with Salesforce, I have worked with other clients e.g Telegram, Discord, ..

Then you have the form and dashboard combination where you built and enquiry and the Trello presents you with the data from the board.

On the board membership question, board access on Trello does not change. But if you are working with API the scope will be determined by the API deverloper. For example, as a observer on BC, using my credentials in code, I can set due and assign members even though as a human observer i am prevented.

See it demonstrated here. The platform above being used.
