Butler command run limit

Deleted user October 21, 2019

I know this has been asked before but just confirming:

I'm on Trello Gold, which I don't even see on the pricing option page anymore   https://trello.com/pricing     Am I really only allowed 200 Butler command runs in a month?     And I see in the above page that Business class is also only 200/user so upgrading would be rather pointless

If this is the case, this is a total game changer for my Trello use and I will be looking for another solution.

Actually for business class it's 1000 per team (so by default you have one team) and +200 per user. So you'd have 1200 in your case

OK, thanks @Thibault Molleman   that is helpful.     I can see that now, too, in the plan description.   It does double my cost, which is unfortunate but I do get more features.

@[deleted] as someone who is a Business Class user (granted, for my own company), I find that another big benefit you get with BC is being able to use more than 3 powerups on a given board!

@Thibault Molleman ,  I noticed that, too.   That's very nice because there are many out there I would like to try

@Thibault Molleman But you need bring boards into a team then you have 1000 commands as a team, if you place on Personal Board, it will only allows you for 200 command per month, as I setup Butler automation for sort every day on every list by priority, 200 commands or even 1000 commands would run out easily, say you have 4-5 lists per boards, and you get 5 boards (for 5 projects), there is 3 lists per board you need sort to put high priority on top of the list, every day you need run at least 15 commands in background, even without consider other rules and buttons you created, it will be easily run out for your personal boards since limit is 200. and by yourself you might not be able to subscribe for enterprise version  since minimum member is 20, so what would be the solution then?

In addition, not sure how Trello system calculate the commands, since one rule probably contains multi commands, is that will consider as one command or multi commends?

Hi @RenoT

There is a separate quota for each one.

If you have a rule (trigger) with 10 things that it does (actions), that counts as 1 command run and 10 operations.

You could create a rule that every morning each list is sorted, that would be one rule and then however many lists as commands, which would make your command runs go further.

To find out what you have/have left, click on Butler on any of your boards, then in the bottom left there's an 'Account' button. Click that and it'll bring up your account where you can see what you've used. It'll look like this:

Screenshot 2020-01-21 at 16.01.52.pngAs I use Trello on my own, although I have BC I don't share boards with anyone, all my Boards are created in the Team, giving me more Butler automations to be able to go through as I ran out very quickly with the free and Gold versions!

@Esme Crutchley Thanks a lot for your input, it helps...

So I could create one command with multi operations. amd Bulter will still consider as one command, so if it is daily task, it will use 22-24 commands per months based on how many work days in the month.

The meantime, I am still struggling with team and personal board. As I am running test among department before we could fully implement Trello as E-office tool, so any board create in Team, you would be not able to share the board with person A unless you invited him into team; or you are able to invite person A but the system will block your function until you update that team since new member joined. And if you are the member of few teams, then you have pay multiple times of subscribution based on how many teams you joined, this is really bother me a lot that I had hard time to figure out what is the best structure I could create as for company wise...

I like to create one team and pay for every member, but if I had different project need create new team which some from current team member, i need pay again for them since new team i created, not really make sense to me, do you have solution for that?

On the side, we might create command under different member to ensure to use up all quote as effective as we could, but it will create confusion between since you have to memorize what commands you created under which account member, not test it whether it would work or not.

Hi @RenoT

I'll attempt to answer this in stages, so I don't forget anything!

So I could create one command with multi operations. amd Bulter will still consider as one command, so if it is daily task, it will use 22-24 commands per months based on how many work days in the month.

  • Yes, it would be 1 command per day for 22 days for example, but if you have 10 operations each time, then it would be 220 operations. So that would equal 22 commands and 220 operations per month.

  • Ok, so have you set up a team? If so, how many people does it have in it?
  • Anyone added to the team can see all the team boards, unless you add individuals to only 1 board as an observer, then the price would be 1 user. However, as soon as one person you add is added to more than 1 board, they are considered as a user and the price will increase. So if you have 1 team and add 4 people to the team, then the price would be for the 4 people.
  • If you have multiple teams, anyone who is on more than 1 team would need to be paid for twice (or however many teams they appear in). There is information here on how Business Class Billing works, which might explain it better than I have!

I like to create one team and pay for every member, but if I had different project need create new team which some from current team member, i need pay again for them since new team i created, not really make sense to me, do you have solution for that?

  • One team with 4 members would result in a charge for all 4 members
  • If you started a new team and shared it with a different 4 people, this would be an additional charge for another 4 members, even if some of the same people are in both teams.
  • BC is billed on a Team basis, regardless of those in it and irrespective of if they are already in another team that you have

I don't know if that helps at all? Everything in Business Class is worked out in discrete teams, if you have multiple teams, you pay multiple amounts, even if 1 person appears in multiple Teams, you'd have to pay for them multiple times, because you pay per team and the members of that team and not per person.

@Esme Crutchley Hey Esme, this is exactly my concern, as a company, if we would like to use Trello as our E-Office Tool for communication and task tracking, we would like to create a team say for 50 peoples, so all bill just went to one company account.

the same time, in this team, whenever I create a board on that team, everyone will see it, no matter whether I invited them or not, the only difference between invited one and uninvited one, uninvited one has read only access to the board.

But if I don't want everyone could see the board, like Annual Price Review Board for Supplier A, so I need create this board in my personal board not team board and invite people from that 50 based on needed, so what is the point to setup a team then.

Then if I have Annual Price Review Board for Supplier B, i still have to create that board in personal board, since if i put on team board, all 50 users will see it, which is sensitive info involved, unless you create a different team for Supply Chain department since you would like different commodity manager involved in each task tracking. But you need pay again even they are already on Company Team and paid.

So if I create Supply Chain Team and joined company team, I need pay twice...

Hey Esme, don't take me wrong, I am seeking a solution as we would like to have Trello as our E-office tool, with Placker power-up, we could manage the communication, task, project and reporting same time, but this "team" thing just confused me and making our setup much more complicated as we expected.

@Esme Crutchley And for more further concern I had is, the software requests for Annual Subscription, so we subscributed for 50 users as one team, with name and email address etc., what if someone leave company after 3 months, and new guy join the company as for replacement with different email address, then our plan change to 51 or still remain 50 users, just update one profile?

Hi @RenoT

Unfortunately, I don't know the answer, as I don't use Trello with anyone else.

I would suggest that you check out this Trello help page entitled 'What are Teams' because you can have free teams (with a 10 board limit) as well which might work for you, but as I have BC on one team and all my boards are there (and I'm the only user), I can't say about the limitations of free teams.

At the bottom of that page is a 'Contact Us' link where you can contact Trello directly and they will have more knowledge than I do about how teams work and should be able to advise better than I can.

I'm sorry that I couldn't be more help :(

In another case, if you run your own business, you subscributed as business class or golden user, you only have 200 commands per month, and you are running about 10 projects on 10 boards, each board has 4-5 lists and you would like system auto sort the priority for you on each list as rule you set in the butler, so you could organize the work in your daily basis, you will run out of quote easily after one week.

Then you want upgrade yourself to enterprise class to get unlimited commands, unfortunately, the minimum members as for enterprise class is 20 members, but your own small business you might just have 5 members, how could we handle this case, Butler as parts of automation from Trello, as long as I subscribute as member, it should use free and unlimited.
