Can I secure boards / cards so no one else can delete cards?

dave_anderson July 28, 2020

Real bummer. We have a new employee, and SOMEHOW she deleted or archived MANY trello cards on our Full Team Trello Board. VERY FRUSTRATING. I can't seem to find the card(s) I'm looking for that dealt with compensation. I tried looking in archive and searching the boards for keywords, but no luck. So, after using Trello for YEARS, I have found that it is not as secure as I thought. So is there a way I can set boards up so only creators can delete cards?

Any possible way of getting back or at least reading the content of a delete card?

We make it really hard to delete cards. You can’t do it by accident. (You first need to archive the cards which many people complain about, but this is the trade off we made because we don’t want people to do it by accident).

I would look in the archive or your browser history (or ask your employee)  to try to find out what happened. You could also look at the activity log on the board.

Unfortunately, I see cards in the Activity where it says she DELETED them and others that say she Archived them. But when I search for the key few I need, using keywords, they are not found. Since it only tells me Care NUMBERS like 256 that was deleted, I can’t tell for CERTAIN she deleted it. But, if I searched for a keyword I KNOW was in the card, it should be found, even if Archived, correct? Thanks for responding!

You can look through all the archived cards on a board.

@dave_anderson I learnt very early in this Trello journey that deleted Trello cards are not recoverable. So I can understand your frustration. The intra board permissions are very limited. The most common recommendation is to have people on Observer status. Since you are not new, I am sure you know it means that you should have Business Class on your teams.

I did challenge myself to have a mechanism to protect cards from deletion and to 'recover' the data. It traps and action as part of the board trigger and use that data provided by Trello to reconstruct the card. So it is actually a new card...ie new Id etc
