Did Action "Convert to Regular Card" Change?

If I remember right, a few months back, when converting mirrored cards to regular cards, these would show as a copy of the original, including title, content, attachments.

Now they appear as a link card, with just the URL as a title.

Does this have to do with the new link cards feature? Or am I hallucinating this?

(I've not been going through this procedure since before the summer, so I was only just getting used to mirroring.)

My workflow was:

  1. prepare lists with mirrored cards on an internal working board
  2. finalize details
  3. copy that list
  4. convert all cards to regular cards
  5. move that list to a new shared board

This was supposed to be a workaround for mirrored cards not being a preview to observers, but a direct embed of the original to which these observers obviously have no access.

Now it seems I have to go to the original and still copy them back into the new list.

Going back now, it really feels like I'm not getting the results I had just acquired this workflow for. I'm convinced something's different now.

Hi there! I'm not sure what you may have been seeing previously; "Convert to regular card" was built from the beginning to convert the Mirror card into a card with the URL as the title, as you're seeing now. This is also how it works when a link card is converted to a regular card.

We did consider something like what you're describing, to convert the Mirror card into a copy of the original card, but that was never implemented. I've added a note about your interest in that feature in case we're able to revisit it in the future.

Okay, thanks for following up.

I've now found a workaround by copying each mirror card separately into a new list, and maybe some iteration of that is what I already did.

Then moving into the Beta transition a lot was going on to deal with.

Collapsed lists and mirroring are still amazing features!

I think you could make an automation to do this, but it would be a bit convoluted. Basically, you could make a list called something like "Convert to copy," and then you could say that, any time a card is moved to that list, take these actions:

  1. Archive the card
  2. Find the source card
  3. copy that card to the top or bottom of the list {triggercardpreviouslistname}

That last part uses a variable which will copy the card into the list that you moved the mirror card from. If the original card isn't a mirror card, it will get archived, but no copy will be made, because the "Find the source card" step won't return any results.

You could keep the "Convert to copy" list collapsed to take up less space, as it's still possible to move a card into a collapsed list.
