I utilize Trello to build a "guide" board for incoming students. They are all added as Observers to access everything in read only format (and the ability to download attachments).
Is there a way to hide the list of Observers so incoming students can't see who else is an Observer on the board?
Thank you!
Hi Cindy! I'm afraid not, when someone is added as a board member (even a member who is set as an Observer), they'll be able to see all the other board members as well. To give a bit of background, one of the principles Trello was built on is the idea of a shared perspective - when possible, users are given access to the same information to help keep everyone as much context as possible.
I recognize that's not entirely ideal in the way you're using it though!
Thanks for confirming. I appreciate the response. We get so much good feedback on how we use Trello to help onboard our students but we were just concerned about student privacy. I can see how when members are interactive/editors, etc., the shared component is important. If there's ever a wishlist for the platform, being able to hide observers would be awesome as they do nothing but consume. They don't communicate, edit, etc.

This feedback has been given hundreds of times actually- maybe more, but the reason why they don't take this request on the roadmap is that they position Trello as a collaborative platform to share work (or other content) not to hide it from members. This has been the explanation made now and before. So I suggest you have a look at Power-Ups made to solve this. Good luck!

Hi @Cindy Stella,
Welcome to the community! Cigdem from Hipporello here. We have Trello Power-Ups with integrated web portals for those who do not want to open up their Trello board to everyone or like in your case, for those who do not want members to see/view each other's cards or profile info.
Our Knowledge Base Power-Up gives you a Trello-integrated knowledge portal, which grabs content from your Trello cards and allows people with the web portal link to view the content. This allows you to:
1. Keep your own work on your Trello board and share as much as you want on the portal.
2. Prevent students from viewing each other's profile.
3. Organize content in a hierarchical way as you want.
Here's a sample web portal view:
You can book a demo through our website or ask me any questions here.
I hope it helps!
Best,

It is worth looking into possibility of enhancing the Trello capabilities with a power-up.
Hipporello would be worth taking a look at. These allow you to be in control of the data on the Trello board (backend) but your incoming students would view through a web portal. @Çiğdem Büyükaşik may be able to advise further...
