How do I automate bi-monthly reminders to each card?

The way I have it set up is over 100 cards are individual manuscripts with a different author for each card. How do I set up automatic bi-monthly reminders to those authors to add a comment that tells me what the status of the manuscript is? Do I have to add all authors as users to my account even though they are external partners? Right now I have 71 members to the board that can observe only. If I allow them permissions to edit how does that affect my monthly cost per user? Also, can I tailer the message to specifically ask each author to update the status of their manuscript based on the category list the card is located? Any advice helps...

If you want the authors to comment on the card, you need to invite them to the board.

Regarding licensing, if you invite them to just one board, it won't increase your subscription. However, if you add them to a second board, they will need a license since they'll become multi-board guests.

You can set up a scheduled automation for the dates you want to add a comment, but I need to understand how you indicate who the author is. Do you add them as a member of the card?

That is also what I am trying to figure out. I could add each corresponding author as a member to each card, if that is the best way. We have not done this before so I am trying to figure out how to best automate the semi-annual reminders to authors. I have approximately 55 authors. Some are currently listed as observers. 

Do I have to add them all to the board (and does that mean they need to create a login). The way I have it set up now is most authors are observers of the board currently. Do I need to change them to members of the board? Is there a limit to the number of board members I can add?

So my understanding is that I can create a deadline or a checklist with deadlines. Is that the process I use to create automated reminder emails? I also want to know if I can customize the text in the reminder email to request them to add the status of the card's project? If the automated reminder email is sent to the authors, can they reply to comment on the card or can they click on a link that will take them to the card so they can comment? If not, how can I get their status of card responses to the reminder?
