I have given someone access to my board but they sue the free version of Trello. I have the Premium one. Can they still not view the Calendar view?

Hi @Virena Behere ,

Welcome to the community!

When you add someone to a board alone and not to workspace, they become a guest in your workspace. This means they can view and interact with this board within their own free workspace under the "Boards" section. Rest assured, all members added to the board will have access to the premium capabilities available within that board, this includes board views as well(calendar view is one of the board views)

For further details please check out Workspace guest

Hi Nivedhya,

Thank you for your note.

When you say "Rest assured, all members added to the board will have access to the premium capabilities available within that board, this includes board views as well(calendar view is one of the board views) ", do you mean Workspace?

@Virena Behere

The key to understand here is that "Premium" is an attribute of the Workspace, NOT the user, and NOT the board.

So when you say something similar to "My account has Trello Premium but their account does not", this is actually a (completely understandable) misunderstanding of how Trello works.

If I create a Workspace called "My Premium Workspace", and pay for Premium for it, then "My Premium Workspace" is running Trello Premium. The Trello features you can or cannot access have nothing to do with your account or the board you're viewing; they are dependent on what workspace the board you are currently viewing is in.

As far as payment is concerned, it depends on how many "seats" you need. If a user is only added to one board in your workspace, you do not need to pay for a seat for them. If you add a user to 2 or more boards in a Premium workspace, you will be billed for a seat for that user.

So, a user, whether they are a guest or not, will be able to access all of the Premium features of Trello if the board they are on is in a Premium workspace. They will only be able to access those features on boards that are part of a Premium workspace. That includes your own account.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you need any additional clarification or if I misread your post at all, haha!

Hi  @Virena Behere

When a member is invited to a workspace, they gain access to all the workspace level boards within that workspace. On the other hand, if someone is added as a guest to a single board or multiple boards without workspace access, they will only have access to that specific boards.

In both scenarios, all premium features available within the workspace or board will be accessible to the members.

Example:

  • If a member with a free workspace is added to a board 'X' in a premium workspace:
    • They will see their free workspace on their Trello homepage.

    • Board 'X' will appear under their guest boards.

    • Premium features will be available only for board 'X'.

  • If the same person is added as a workspace member to the premium workspace:

    • They will see both their free workspace (with its limitations) and the premium workspace.

    • Premium features will be available in the premium workspace alone.

Hope this helps!
