I find the new UI very difficult to use, particularly the colors — quite hard to tell some of them apart.

On some of my computers, the desktop app is (thankfully!) still using the old UI, as is the web version.

But on the machine I use most, I seem to be stuck with the new one. Is there any way to revert to "classic mode?"

What the heck is wrong with the trello team? A forced inferior UI update on all their users?

This has to be a joke.

Bring back the old UI ASAP!! This new version is basically unusable as a power user!

Please add an option to revert to the old UI. The new one is now causing 2-3x as many clicks to perform the same actions and has been terrible for workflow. Otherwise we need to migrate to a new platform.

On a 14" FullHD laptop with Win11 with 150% display scale (recommended) is new UI with card details on the left and comments on the right just unusable. I barely can see the content. Could you PLEASE allow to switch at least to view card content as before, but maybe wider window? Narrow comments section is also very bad (even on a big monitor). Thank you.

Development team, please let people choose whichever version they want. This new version is much worse: more clicks, less information on the screen. I really don’t understand what the designers are thinking when they launch a new project that’s so much worse than the old one without getting feedback from the customers who use the product!

Please let us use the old design; I’m sure all of users will go back to it!

Apparently, they won't give us the option to revert to the old design, which is truly stupid on Trello's part. The new design is rubbish; we've completely lost screen real estate. Those with small screens will feel cramped, and there's no way to do anything. It's a pain!

Unfortunately, I'll have to find another alternative. After using Trello for years, I'll have to switch!

Shame on you, Trello, losing a client because of a poor and meaningless design. What a huge failure!

How does every update actually make this service worse?

I'm on an ultra wide monitor, and I cannot even imagine how this would look on anything smaller. The inbox just there on the side is perplexing. Even minimizing it there's still a section being wasted on the screen. The sizing changes make no sense.

BUT, OH, THE REAL THING THAT'S SET ME OFF, IS HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO MAKE TRELLO SLOWER? I was simply highlighting text so I could copy and paste, and the lag on that was insane? That's an extremely simple process, guys. It's taking so long to open anything.

I would think that the most useful thing to offer to your customers would be options....between this update and the old look, between mark down editing and the new editor...... You know this is a program used for workflow, but then go ahead and screw up how people are used to working constantly. It's incredibly frustrating.

What used to take me 4 clicks now takes me 9 clicks.

I mean, To switch to one board to another was a 1 click action, now its 2. To move a card from one board to another (when it was a regular occurence) was a 2 click thing, now its a 4 click.

Everything that was made better in the past 4 years was taken away in one update. Who makes these? The Grinch?

I use a tall narrow monitor to show lots of cards. I understand how to show/hide inbox, planner etc but what I REALLY want to hide is the left side 'personal settings'/'workspace' column. It takes up a whole quarter of the screen for options I rarely need to touch.

Is there any way to hide the personal settings panel?

If not, is there a way to get back the old UI?

Adding my voice as someone unsatisfied with the new UI!

But for the colours specifically, have you looked at the Colourblind Friendly mode, which adds patterns to the colours to help distinguish them? I'm not colourblind, but I use this routinely anyway.

Hi Luke,

Thanks for sharing your feedback!

I've passed on your comment to the team working on this project.

Unfortunately, there's currently no way to revert these changes back as we're gradually rolling out new themes to all users.

You can check out the themes options available to your account by clicking the Theme button located in the top-right corner of the Trello page.

If there's anything else you want me to send over the development team's way, just let me know!

Hey there,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I'm glad to let you know that the team has temporarily brought back the option to switch to the Original theme while we're still gathering feedback on this feature.

You should be able to switch to the Original theme from the same menu I mentioned above.

Hope this helps!

No sure why the option to revert back to the Original theme has been removed. New colours are very difficult to work with on the boards. Having used trello for many years I would need to amend many boards to make this usable.

If original theme is no longer available it will probably be easier to export my data to a new a new tool such as Monday.

Sure it would be easier to provide option to still use the original theme rather than losing loyal customer over a UI change. Even Microsoft still provide an option to using Window 10 rather than forcing the use of Windows 11.

Hi David,

It's sad to hear that this change has had such an effect on your work with Trello 😔

As of now, I'm afraid there aren't any new developments or updates from the team in regard to bringing the original theme back.

I've passed on your comment for their review though! I understand it must take time to adjust to the new color palette, but is there anything specific about the new themes or colors you'd like me to pass on to the team? I'd be glad to do that!

Hi Alina,

I'm a high school gr.11 student who has been using Trello for the past year and I loved it, especially for its beautiful pastel color scheme and design that allowed me to joyfully keep track of my tasks. However, all of that changed after the old theme was completely removed.

The new colors are too strong and not aesthetically pleasing to the eye. For example, my high-priority label used to have a light pastel red color, and now it's a horrible, saturated red that hurts my eyes. Another example is when I check off the due date box, it turns an unsightly dark green that ruins my satisfaction of checking if off as a whole. Moreover, in my personal opinion, I can not stand the boxes' rounded corners, no matter how hard I try to get used to them.

Could the Trello team please bring back the old theme, even if it's a side option!!? I really want to continue using Trello happily. Thank you.

Hi Rosa,

Sorry to hear the new navigation's causing trouble!

You can indeed hide Inbox (and bring it back at any time) along with Planner. You can find the instructions on how to do that and some helpful screenshots here: https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/new-trello-support/#How-to-navigate-the-new-Trello

To locate your Workspace views, use the same switcher to bring up/hide Inbox, click on the Workspace name under the search bar and scroll down to view your custom views for that Workspace.

Hope this helps! If you have any further feedback, I'd be glad to relay your comments to our product team 🙂

So ... you've decided we don't need access to Power Ups like Card Dependencies any more? But having half the screen filled with comments - even if there aren't any - is better.

Makes perfect sense.

Please please PLEASE add an option to collapse/hide the comment section and return Power Ups on the Cards

The comments (and especially EMPTY SPACE when there are none) filling the screen make Trello extremely annoying to use. And virtually unusable with split-screen (the comments are shown on top of the card description and hide most of it)!

Hey @tim_draper,

You can, in fact, perform all those actions: collapse comments and get access to Power-Ups on a card 🙂 I understand this might be something new users would need to get used to, but the buttons to perform both actions are located in the navigation menu at the footer of the card.

You can find the screenshot of it here: https://support.atlassian.com/trello/docs/new-card-back/#:~:text=Interact%20with%20Power%2DUps%2C%20%20Automations%20and%20comments

Hey Alina,

I appreciate all the info you've given so far, but Is there a way to move comments and activity back down under the description? We use Trello in my office and utilize the comments frequently, but are often also using split screen. Having the cards wide means we have to mouse more and use the horizontal scroll even when zoomed out on the tab. @Alina Kurishko

@Alina Kurishko Is there a way to bring back the board listings on the left? I lived by seeing that list all at once and with one click switching boards. I saw a comment somewhere that there should be a "..." option on the board search window, but I do not have it. I am getting extremely frustrated not being able to see my project boards at a glance, and navigating to them quickly. It's taking sooo many more clicks to find my boards, and it's making my day extremely difficult. Screenshot 2025-07-21 093852.png

Exactly! The card layout with left/right and not being able to make the right side (the important one!) bigger is really not useful, at all. Bad UX. The left side is not important in most cases. The right side holds a lot of comments, images, replies and now is horribly squeezed. It's a bad experience - even more so - in complex projects with a lot of "talk" about tasks.

And yes, if I want to have Jira, I use Jira. But for 75% of our (agency customer) projects it's just too complex/bloated. Trello is perfect (was). It's agile but also understandable for "normal" customers as a support/task/2do board without lengthy onboarding and a lot of help for us to keep everything task-based and compact. We are looking into Taiga now (as free alternative, that might be "not enough") and other competitors like awork.com. In Germany there is meistertask.com

I get that things have to be updated and changed over time. But why you are making something great in its obvious beloved functions not-so-great anymore (especially by changing the obvious important pieces like the comments view of a card to something less important visually - when it is the most important thing in a real world scenario?!)
I mean, you can talk a lot about how this is "more agile". But this is an opinion and not a scientific proof. And your opinion is wrong. Where is the actual improvement here? Just words. (and then not even to implement this tiny small little thing to be able to change the left/right side width, really? in 2025?)

There are little things that are so important, that you destroy the whole thing, if you change them so fundamentally.

Disappointed.
