"Card Repeater" cards not displaying on Calendar View

For some reason cards that are set to repeat via the "Card Repeater" power-up aren't displaying on Calendar View.

I don't see this addressed in the power-up's about page, and even when I filter search by label (using a label I know is applied to my repeater cards), they still don't display.

How do I fix this so that all repeat instances of the card are displayed? Or do I actually need to have individual cards created?

Do you mean future instances of the card? They won't show up until they're actually created, so if you create a card and have it set to repeat every day, you'll only see the card for today and then tomorrow it will create a new card, etc.

@Brittany Joiner Is there a way to automate those cards being created in advance? Or a Butlr command that would duplicate a specific card on specific days within a set period of time? 

Case example: If I create card A, could Butlr automatically duplicate that card all at once with a specific date parameter, ex. every Tuesday through 2022.

Essentially I need to actually see all repeat instances of the card, either on the board or calendar view, for planning purposes. If this means creating all the repeat instances of the card in advance, that's ok, but it'd be torturous to do it manually (for a whole year's worth of repeats for example...)

@Tami Liss ah interesting. No I don't think there's a way to create all those cards up front automatically. You could look at the Bulk Actions power-up, but i don't see an option to take one card and copy it immediately 52 times with customized due dates throughout the year, which sounds like what you're looking for.

I'm honestly shocked that Trello, a task management program, doesn't have a way to easily duplicate or create cards more than one at a time (and when you "Copy" a card you can't really edit it before it's created, so there's the extra step and Trello lag between copying and editing).

I expected Card Repeater to act like repeat events on most other platforms, Ex. in Google Calendar when you set an event to repeat it simply creates and shows you those repeat events, with the option to edit one instance or all.

Repeating or "creating" it only on the day it was set for means it's essentially only for cards you plan to interact with minimally, since you can't see, edit, or do anything with it until that day.

@Tami Liss it might be capable and I'm just not aware of it. I believe you can copy a card multiple times, I just don't think it will automatically set that due date. I think there used to be an option when you clicked copy it asked how many instances, although I don't see that option anymore. But i think even in that case, you'd still have had to manually change the due dates. I'm not sure honestly - like I said someone else might know a way to do this, I'm not saying it's not possible, just that I don't know :)

One thing I just thought of - you can use keyboard shortcuts to cmd/ctr + c and then cmd/ctr + v to paste. Yes you’d have to do that 52 times for a year but it would take about 52 seconds.

The due dates is the tricker piece. The shortcut is to type “d” to open the due dates, and I believe once you select a due date it saves that time frame. So like when you get to a Tuesday (or whatever day) next month, and go to the next card, I don’t think it’ll start you at the current date. So in theory it could be a pretty fast type d, move mouse a week later, click, etc. 

again hoping someone else comes in here and maybe knows a faster way to accomplish this, but just thought I’d mention since i guess I think about these things as I fall asleep 😂

Ah! Just actually thought of another way. Was reading a recent trello blog post and remembered this tip

“When you enter a card name ending with a date, set the card to be due on that date.”

go to a spreadsheet and make first cell (A1) the title you want of the card and (B1) the first due date you want. In C1, type =concatenate(A1,” “,B1).

Then in a2 copy from a1, and for b2 make it =b1+7, and copy c2 from c1. 

and then copy and paste from A2 and B2 and C2 all the way down for as many weeks as you want. 

Then copy column C and paste it into a trello board and it’ll create a card for each one. 

Let me know if this makes sense - I can make the spreadsheet and show you what I mean if that would help.

@Brittany Joiner Belated HUGE THANK YOU for your help troubleshooting this! Your suggestions and workarounds WORKED and were tremendously helpful - I really appreciate you taking the time to consider possible solutions and even record the video walkthrough, and can't express my gratitude enough!!

I also ended up using the Bulk Actions power-up to mass-edit the dates out of the Cards' names after they'd been generated as a due date within the card itself, as well as add the necessary labels and assignees.

To Trello's developers, this type of multi-step workaround and troubleshooting shouldn't be necessary for something like this, which is quite literally a one-click process in Google Calendar and other calendar and To-Do applications.

agree with Tami! I am a new Trello user and shocked this isn't a feature of card repeat. ie regular client activity each week. Pretty standard request I think.

@Benjamin Clark you and me both! I actually filled out all my cards and thought I would get to good planning but now considering leaving the platform because of this.

Not sure what is the point of an empty calendar..
