Use an uncompleted to-do list as a barrier to moving card

I use a series of checklists in my cards for various repetitive tasks to ensure I'm maintaining standard processes at my place of work.

For example, for Task A, I may have several closeout tasks to do such as "email so-and-so that task is complete, save documents to hard drive, and update completed project spreadsheet"

I do lots of variants of "Task A" so I keep this to-do list in a template card. Sometimes I get overeager to mark a task as complete and move it to my "done" column once its complete, but I haven't done my closeout tasks. I want to set up a process such that my board won't let me move a card to done unless the check list is completed. This forces me to take a step back and double check that everything is actually completed. Is this possible with Trello?

Hi Kristina,

This could likely be done via Trello's Butler Power up. This power up offers a range of automated actions when you have completed a certain trigger.

For example, you can set a trigger that when you complete all of your checklist the card will move to you done column automatically. So in this sense you should also be able to add a trigger that when you complete your to do list it produces a closeout list that highlights you are not in fact finished and only once that list is checked off can the card be automatically moved to done by Butler.

However, there is not an action currently that will fully stop you moving your card to done before all actions are complete. The above is a good example of a work around for this though.

I hope this helps but please let me know if you have any more questions 😊

All the best,

Laura
