Hi,
we use trello in our team, and I am shocked how bad the new UI is.
For starters:
- Before it was a breeze to navigate everything as it was all there in the board overview, now it is somewhat nested, or difficult to find, and it seems that a ton of the functionality is missing.
- The stream became much more difficult to navigate as the card is now not spanning the whole higth of the screen but is just like a pop up. It is scroll mania now to find anything, as it is just about 60% of the higth it had before.
- The comment section on the side is smaller and looks like it is in the wrong place based on the bubbles being kind of glued to the right side.
- What is that Automations thing in the lower middle. There is a move card button, but for the love of god, I have no idea after 5 min trying to figure out what to do from there.
- It feels that this very redundant menu on the bottom takes very important real estate that should be dedicated to work. It is things that you would use once in a while to adjust settings and now it is center stage. That makes no sense from a UI perspective.
- There is also no sense in making the overview 2 fold (description and comments) once the description is clear, then all happens in the comments, there is no need to have the description displayed all the time. Again a waste of important work real estate.
I have no idea what the concept behind the new UI is, but I would assume you did not integrate user groups in testing and idea creation.
We are actively searching for a replacement for Trello now.
It was a good ride. Incredible tool for over a decade!
We switched to Meistertask and haven’t looked back.
The weird default radio button on the card face was alarming, but the loss of the side navigation and what now is a scrollable card modal makes the platform unusable as a power user.
I’m sure in the coming months the usage numbers will teach the Trello team a valuable lesson in core vs. bs features.
Based on the development team's responses, I am not entirely confident they fully grasp user concerns. Let's remember they actually thought the update was a user improvement.
My annual subscription ends this month, and it's been cancelled. I am exploring other options to replace Trello for personal use: Notion, Asana, and Todoist. Currently, I use ClickUp for professional projects and might also use it for personal tasks.
