I want to run a scheduled automation that runs every midnight, and moves all cards that are marked complete to the DONE list. This clears all the completed tasks out of all the lists leaving only pending tasks, and allows me to see them in the DONE list through the week. (I don't want to archive the cards since I want to still see them in DONE)
Something like this Schedule Rule would work great: "every day at 11:59 pm, move each card that is marked as complete in a card to the top of list "DONE". But in the scheduled automation Action section I don't see a way of selecting/filtering by "cards marked complete" or "cards with due date marked complete".
Is there a way to do that?
I do have a work around with two rules that works fine:
The only issue with this workaround is that it uses up a lot of automation-runs everyday, and I run out by the end of the month. If I could act directly on the "marked as complete" cards in the Schedule rule, it would require only one automation-run per day which is much better.
Thanks for any help, suggestions or cooler workarounds.
Hi Lalit!
Thank you for the details about your use case! The workaround you mentioned would be the same workaround I'll setup. So far there isn't a way to use completed cards as a trigger or an action in an automation.
While this exact functionality isn’t currently available in Trello, you aren’t alone in wanting this as we have had other users interested in this as well. With that in mind, I’ve added you as a “+1” to our existing suggestion, which you can access here: TRELLO-1130
I have also added this ticket as an internal comment to this report so that way our engineering team can reference it and also use it to help align priority. I would also recommend you visit that suggestion, log in with your Atlassian account, and click Start watching this issue on the right panel. This will help our product and engineering team understand more about which functionalities our users are interested in. Also, when the ticket is updated by our product team, you'll be notified via email.
You can learn more about this by reading our Implementation of New Features Policy: New Features Policy.
I'm not sure if this is helpful as it won't be a scheduled automation, but a workaround I can think of is using a card button that marks a card as complete and also moves it to the top of the list "DONE" like this:
Other than that, the workaround you have already would be the best option for you. You might also want to consider getting a Standard so you can increase the automation quota:

I hope this helps, but let us know if you have any questions!

Hi Mat,
Thanks for the detailed answer. And for confirming that the current workaround is probably the best to have. I'll stay with that until more functionality around "marked as completed" get added.
As you stated, while TRELLO-1130 is not exactly what I'm looking for, I've added my comment to it and "started watching the issue".
The second workaround you suggest - for "moving a card to the top of the DONE list, WHEN it is marked completed" - that can already be done with the current supported automation rules: "when the card is marked as complete in a card, move the card to the top of the DONE list", which will move the card as soon as it's "marked completed" action is triggered.
For my use case, I don't want to move the card immediately on marking completed, but at the end of the day, hence need a way to apply a filter to select only completed cards independent of any other action.
Thanks for the detailed response and suggestion though, appreciate it. And since it accurately answers my query, I am marking the answer Accepted :-)
