Trello card comments now appear in a side tab — how to go back to the classic layout?

Hi there!

Since mid-April 2025, I've noticed that the comments inside my Trello cards are no longer displayed underneath the card content as they used to. Instead, they now appear in a separate tab on the right-hand side of the screen.

This new layout is really affecting my workflow, as I rely heavily on having a full, continuous timeline of the card's information — including comments — in one place.

Here’s what I’ve already tried to fix or revert this change:

• Switched browsers

• Cleared cookies/cache

• Used incognito mode

• Tested on other devices

• Logged in with a different Trello account

Unfortunately, none of those worked. Is this a new permanent layout? Will there be a way to switch back to the classic view? Any help or official statement would be much appreciated.

Actually, you can go to the Overview page by clicking in the upper left hand corner on "Trello".

Then on the right top just left of the search box is a dropdown. There you can opt out of the Beta. Which sorta fixes it for now.

Thanks too, I REALLY hate this new layout. It makes no sense for actual productivity for me at least. Giving options to move it around would be better.

Please help, how can I switch back as this new setup is terrible for confusion and workflow :(, about to move from Trello.

SO! I found something at the bottom of the boards, it has a few options and one of them is to switch boards. So now instead of having it persistent and one click, it's now 2 clicks and a pop up. REALLY annoying. 
Wonder how the test results worked in the Beta to let this go thru?

I really liked this new view/feature! It's more compact and keeps the focus on the main content. 

I'm sad to see it gone already. I was a huge fan!

I've been looking at how to swap the comments section back to the right hand side - I felt it made much more sense rather than having to scroll down through all the top information before seeing what the latest information was. I guess it depends on how much info/checklists etc you have on your card, but for me it was definitely better to have the comments on the right. I loved it.

Everyteam has a different workflow; I think the "complaints" should be viewed as valuable feedback - and I'm hoping what results is a flexible permanent feature where we can toggle between the 2 layouts to use what works best for our team/company!

Same here. Super annoying.The previous card view made it so easy to scan all info at once glance. The new card view makes this horribly complicated and tedious. Please change it back!!

I'm not finding the dropdown to the left of the search box.  I am trying to go back to the classic view instead of the side by side.  Any other options to change back?

There is no way to switch is back.  I spent hours each day for many days trying to figure it out and then came here.  No option to switch it back.

This is affecting me too. The new layout appeared suddenly, and there is no obvious way to revert it. 

I prefer the old layout and would like to switch back. 

I really don't appreciate Atlassian making such a big change without notification or giving users a way to opt in.

I just hope the Development team is reading this!!!!!  I too had just trained on the old view - with no idea anything was coming - and then after training when I logged back in - BOOM!!!!! Different layout.  And my training was recorded to share with the whole 3000+ team - not cool!  

there should be a way to CHOOSE - some like it some don’t.  But all teams should have the option to be the same!

I do not have a dropdown on the "Overview Page" (is the overview page the DASHBOARD - that's what we call it - where all your boards are seen on the screen??)

There is no dropdown on the new view.  Majority of my co-workers still have the old view which does have the dropdown.  The new view which they were randomly rolling out to users doesn't have it.  There is currently no way to change it back.  It very upsetting.

I am also looking for a way to switch between the "old" and "new" views. 

Some of our cards have a long history of activity and it makes much more sense to show those using the whole width.  With the new view most of the screen is used by attachments, etc that aren't really the focus of the conversations in the comments.  So we have to read those comments using only a small area of the screen.

I am not liking the side view option for my uses. Additionally I was just training 3 new team members on how to use our team Trello board and 2 of the 3 have this new layout. I had never seen this layout until today and our whole team except 2 new members have the old view.

1. This is confusing for training
2. I don't understand why 2 team members using the same workspace as the rest of the team would automatically be defaulted to a new view.
3. They don't see the same options for different actions on the cards
4. having some of the team stuck in the new view with no option to change to the classic view is frustrating
5. Since I personally do not have that view I also cannot familiarize myself with it in order to help the team navigate the new layout.

I can see how some people would find this alternative view to their liking. Having the choice of which version is preferred would be the best option.

Is there any way to change the 2 newbies view to match the teams view? It is confusing for the newbies who are not tech friendly.
